Every pregnancy is different. And so is every conversation with your midwife, if she actually knows you. At Mirasoon, continuity of care is at the heart of what we do: our goal is one dedicated midwife who guides you from your first appointment through to after the birth. It is the model we deeply believe in, and from 1 January 2027 we will officially operate as a caseload practice.
Your midwife knows your story, your wishes, and your pregnancy from beginning to end. She is there at every check-up, through every doubt, and for the questions that only occur to you late at night. When labour starts, she is the one you call.
In all honesty: right now, we cannot always guarantee continuity of care 100%. Partly because of a maternity leave in our team until early next year. We do our very best, we are open about it, and at your first meeting we will tell you exactly where things stand.
You give birth wherever you feel most comfortable: at home, in the birthing clinic or in hospital. We bring in the obstetrician if complications are suspected or if there is a wish for a hospital birth. Everything is discussed with you and your partner.
We deliberately keep our numbers small. Not for exclusivity, but because genuine attention requires space. No checklist, no standard protocol. You decide, and we make sure you have all the information you need to do that well.

Insurance
Mirasoon is a private practice. You pay for care directly to us and submit the invoice to your insurer yourself, reimbursement always follows afterwards. SVB does not cover midwifery care at Mirasoon. Citizens, CG United, Ennia and Guardian generally reimburse part of the costs, often only after prior approval from the insurer. International, expat and defence insurers often cover everything. At intake we discuss costs transparently, so you are never surprised.

What exactly does a midwife do in Curaçao?
A midwife guides you through your entire pregnancy, the birth, and the first weeks afterward. At Mirasoon we handle your check-ups, ultrasounds, and all the conversations about how you and your baby are doing; blood tests are run through the lab, and we discuss and assess the results together with you. We care for healthy pregnancies independently, at home or in the birth clinic. We bring in the obstetrician if complications are suspected or if there is a wish for a hospital birth. Everything is discussed with you and your partner. You decide, we guide: you get the information and the calm you need to make your own choices.
What is the difference between a midwife and an obstetrician (gynaecologist)?
A midwife specialises in healthy, normal pregnancies and births and works independently, with plenty of time and personal attention. An obstetrician is a hospital-based medical specialist who focuses on complications, high-risk pregnancies, and surgery such as a caesarean. For a normal pregnancy you are in the right place with Mirasoon; if a medical reason arises, we refer you specifically to an obstetrician and stay involved alongside you.
Will I keep the same midwife throughout my whole pregnancy?
That is exactly what we are building toward. Mirasoon is developing a caseload model in which you keep the same partera as much as possible throughout your journey, from your first check-up to after the birth. This lets you build real trust and means you do not have to retell your story each visit. The model is officially being introduced from 1 January 2027, and even now we arrange for as much continuity as possible in who supports you.
Does my insurance cover a midwife in Curaçao?
That depends on your insurance. The SVB (basic insurance) does not cover our care. Ennia and Guardian cover part of it, depending on your policy. If you have international or expat insurance, the costs are often fully reimbursed. In all cases you pay the invoice to us yourself and submit it to your insurer, unless we have agreed otherwise together. We tell you honestly in advance what to expect, give you a clear overview in XCG, and by arrangement you can also pay in instalments.
Do I need a referral to come to Mirasoon?
No. Midwifery care is primary care: you do not need a referral to make an appointment or register with us. You can simply get in touch directly as soon as you know you are pregnant.
