How does it work?
Hormone
The rod continuously releases a small amount of etonogestrel, a progestogen-like hormone.
Ovulation suppressed
The hormone suppresses ovulation and thickens cervical mucus, making fertilization virtually impossible.
Up to 3 years protection
After insertion you are immediately protected. Effective for up to three years, then replace or remove.
The procedure
Pick up prescription
You collect the implanon yourself on prescription from the pharmacy. We arrange the prescription at or before the appointment.
Anaesthesia
The skin of your inner arm is locally anaesthetised; you will barely feel the insertion itself.
Insertion
Using a special instrument, the rod is placed just under the skin in a few minutes. A small plaster and you're done.
Removal
Want to have the implanon removed sooner? That is always possible and we do this at Mirasoon too.
Fee

The rod itself you buy on prescription at the pharmacy. Removal on request; price is discussed at the appointment.
