How many hours work for you?
Maternity care is not one-size-fits-all. One mother needs a full day of support, another prefers a few focused hours. Both are fine, and anything in between too.
Full day
Full relief. Your maternity nurse is there from morning to afternoon, handles check-ups, helps with breastfeeding, cooks, and keeps the house in order. You only have to be.
A few hours a day
All essential check-ups and guidance, planned compactly. Ideal if you already have a bit more grip, or when budget is a factor. Quality remains the same.
The number of hours and days are agreed upon at intake. We adjust if the situation requires it.
What does the maternity nurse do?
Mum check-ups
Daily blood pressure, temperature, wound healing, and general well-being. So you know everything is healing well.
Baby check-ups
Weight, umbilical stump, color and reflexes. Your maternity nurse notices immediately if something needs attention.
Breastfeeding
Latching, frequency, pumping: your maternity nurse patiently guides you until it feels natural, without judgment.
Household & rest
Light tasks like cooking, laundry, and tidying, so you can rest. Because rest during the postpartum week is not a luxury, but a necessity.
Involving the family
Partner, siblings: the maternity nurse helps the family settle with the arrival of the new baby.
Nutrition & hydration
Eating and drinking well directly contributes to your recovery and milk production. We keep an eye on it together.
Role of the midwife during the postpartum period
The maternity nurse supports you at home, but the midwife remains your primary caregiver in the first days. They work closely together. You don't need to coordinate that.
How does it work?
Intake
Well before the birth, we plan a getting-to-know-you conversation. We discuss your wishes, your home situation, and how many hours per day or week works for you.
Tailored plan
We create a flexible schedule that suits you, and that you can always adjust if the situation requires it.
Postpartum week
Your maternity nurse visits daily for check-ups, guidance, and support. She works calmly, attentively, and adjusts her pace to yours.
Handover
After the postpartum week, care is transferred to your GP or child health clinic. You are not alone, we ensure everything is properly handled.

At Mirasoon you have two dedicated maternity nurses. Who comes to your home is arranged at intake. Both bring warmth, knowledge, and calm.

Insurance
Mirasoon is a private practice. You pay for maternity care directly to us and submit the invoice to your insurer yourself, reimbursement always follows afterwards. Ennia and Guardian often cover maternity care, up to a maximum number of hours; check your own policy for the exact terms. Dutch and international insurers often reimburse a large part, sometimes only after prior approval. At intake we discuss costs transparently, so you are never surprised.

How many days of maternity care do I get after the birth?
Maternity care at Mirasoon usually lasts eight days after the birth. Your maternity nurse visits daily for check-ups for you and your baby, breastfeeding support, and help around the house, so you can focus on resting and recovering. We agree on how many hours per day at the intake.
How many hours of maternity care do I need, and can I choose that myself?
You decide, together with us. Some mothers want a full day of support, from morning to afternoon, with complete relief from daily tasks. Others prefer a few focused hours a day for the essential check-ups and guidance. There is a minimum number of hours per visit, so we never send someone out for just a single hour. Both options offer the same quality of care, and we adjust the number of hours if your situation calls for it.
Is maternity care covered by my insurance in Curaçao?
Mirasoon is a private practice: you pay for maternity care directly to us and submit the invoice to your insurer yourself. Ennia and Guardian often cover maternity care, up to a maximum number of hours; check your own policy for the exact terms. With international or expat insurance, costs are often fully reimbursed afterward. We always discuss the costs transparently beforehand, and by arrangement you can also pay in instalments.
Can the maternity nurse also be present at a home birth?
Yes. Giving birth at home? On request, your maternity nurse is already there at the birth itself, so the transition into the postpartum week goes smoothly and you have a familiar face around you from the very first moment. This comes with a small additional cost, which we discuss clearly with you beforehand. Your midwife remains your primary caregiver in the first days; she and the maternity nurse work closely together, so you do not have to worry about coordinating anything.
